Doula Capacity Scholarship Fund

Eligibility

    • If you meet the following criteria, then you may apply. 

    • Baltimore City resident;

    • age 18 or older;

    • be available Saturdays from 8am-12pm from March 7, 2026, to April 11, 2026.

  • An applicant will need to upload the following documents in order to pass the technical review. 

    Driver’s License – a copy of your Driver’s License or State Identification Card showing a Baltimore City residence. If you do not have a Driver’s License or State ID, you can upload a utility bill, lease agreement (signed), vehicle insurance card, or bank statement. These alternative documents must include the name of the applicant.

  • Yes. If you are a practicing Doula but would like to accept Medicaid clients, you should apply.

Programmatic Questions

  • The program is fully virtual for training. An in-person skills training will be offered during mentorship. Additionally, CPR training is hybrid with virtual coursework and an in-person skills session. Attendance is mandatory for full certification.

  • This meeting is not mandatory, but it does help with getting participants oriented and meeting fellow cohort members. If you have a previous engagement, we understand. 

  • This part of the program walks you through everything you need to have a successful doula business, including eligibility for staying enrolled in the Medicaid ePrep process and career sustainability. There is self-guided curriculum that you follow, and Sweet Bee offers office hours and sessions to assist cohort members with completion of this work. Click here for additional information: https://www.sweetbeedoula.com/shop/p/sweet-bee-doula-mentorship 

  • Doulas are not a licensed field at this time, but your certification allows you to be enrolled in ePrep. As a career, doulas work alongside licensed clinical practitioners like nurses, doctors, etc. Part of this program will teach you the full scope of work as a doula and how to work with those other practitioners. Click here for additional information: https://www.sweetbeedoula.com/shop/p/sweet-bee-doula-training 

  • The certification is for 2 years. You can be recertified through earning continuing education credits. 

Award Selection Questions

  • Technical Review: each application will be reviewed by the Civic Fund to ensure that all questions are complete, and all requested documents are submitted. If an application is found to be missing anything, then the application will not be eligible for selection.

    Random Selection: all applications which pass technical review will be assigned a number and an online, third-party randomizer will choose applications for awards.

  • Yes. The training program is offered 3 times a year in March, May and September. Folks are welcome to apply directly with Sweet Bee Services for any of their cohort programs. They offer a one-time fee or monthly payment plan option as well as Klarna and Afterpay. 

  • The cost of the program is $5,000.
